Supporting people with disability to live a good life

Transport Option

For many people with a disability, transport is about much more than simply going from point A to point B – it’s about freedom, independence and education. Let us help you get where you need to go safely.

My support worker and I are going to places I would like to see. I learned how to take the bus or train there. I want to learn more so I can have a driver’s license one day. man checking the bus time table

Essence Care Australia Transport Services

My support workers pick me up for the activities I choose to do on my days with them. I am a huge fan of sports so we might be doing that or something else fun.

Traveling with your Support Worker

Our fleet is complemented by Support Worker vehicles for when you do not require an accessible transport option. The NDIS can provide funding for a support worker to drive you around or accompany you out into the community. This can include things like shopping trips, social events, or transport to medical appointments.

Public Transport

Wherever possible we support you to learn and be comfortable using public transport options. Not only does it help you to become more independent, it is also a good use of the limited NDIS funding for transport. Building independence is a common NDIS goal, and transport plays a big role in that. If your disability makes it hard for you to get around but you would like to learn to travel independently, you might be eligible for funding for public transport training or driving lessons.

Specialised Vehicles

If you require a specialised, or modified, vehicle because of your disability, the NDIS may be able to help pay for modifications under ‘Assistive Technology‘ (category 5), so you can do things like…

  • get in and out of the vehicle with or without a wheelchair;
  • carry your wheelchair in or on the vehicle without lifting;
  • be transported safely whilst seated in your wheelchair; or
  • drive the vehicle with specialised controls or other adaptions.

Need some support?

Both Plan Management and Support Coordination can be useful services when it comes to transport. Plan Management can help you access a wide range of transport providers and take care of the financial side of your transport. If you have a Support Coordinator, they can find and connect you with the best service providers for your transport needs.
